For my birthday I visited The Elms spa in Excelsior Springs, MO. I can't recommend The Elms enough - located in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. Especially if you live near Kansas City (it's just a quick 40 minute drive). It's a historic property (c.1888) and has a fascinating story. The spa specifically was updated 2 years ago and the design felt fresh. I would give it a 5/5 stars!

This was my first spa experience post baby and I would highly recommend giving this gift to other postpartum moms!! The images below are from a "waiting area" called the Sanctuary where one sits prior to their appointment. It's beyond serene with snacks, cucumber water, and coloring books!!
I really connected with my massage therapist as well! She recommended a book, How Not To Die, that I can't wait to read. Here is a LINK to check it out on Amazon. There appears to be a cookbook companion book to this paperback which is likely worth a look too.
She and I talked about health, weight, and general wellness. Her wisdom went way beyond just the massage table.
If you get lucky enough to travel to The Elms soon, you must go 2-hours early and spend that time in their Grotto. This is an area with hot tubs, dry sauna, wet sauna, and cold shower. There was aromatherapy mist, scented towels and water. There was just enough to explore in that allotted time frame.
Why talk about a spa trip on an interior design blog? Because my work focuses on not only how our spaces look and are curated, but also how we live our best lives. Self-care (especially for new moms) is essential for their well-being. And that "self-care" can take many forms. It doesn't have to be fancy or formal either. Just know that any new mama in your life will appreciate a kind gesture in this direction.
