What kind of experience do I bring to my work?
One of my very first jobs in Los Angeles (post graduate school) was with Dwell On Design (the largest design fair on the west coast gathering architects and designers with industry tastemakers for a sensory experience in Los Angeles). Dwell magazine was always a favorite (see their January 2025 cover below!) To say I was a fan of Dwell is an understatement and this "contract gig" was a dream opportunity.
Below is a picture of the entrance to the conference which was held in downtown Los Angeles. And below that is a video which gives you a little flavor of the show - way back in 2012! ;-)
I worked on both on and off site exhibitions and programming for DOD. A major part of my position was helping organize and run their Southern & Northern California Architectural Home Tours. Another pinch me moment!
I then went on to work for H.D. Buttercup, a major retailer in the "home" space located in Culver City, California. There I handled marketing and one of the more important events we put on at that time was hosting a group of design bloggers and we had two celebrity interior designers as our keynote speakers!
I then went to work for the Pacific Design Center where I assisted with their Design Lab at PDC arts program (which provided a platform to explore art that addressed the design center‘s unique context of interior design). There I helped the PDC host fine art gallery openings, and I also helped run exhibitions within the building curated by Helen Varola.
I also worked that year for Timothy Yarger Fine Art, a contemporary art gallery in Beverly Hills. At TYFA I was the Assistant Director; I sold art from the gallery as well as helped run our traveling shows at Art Aspen and in San Francisco.
But two of my most memorable jobs in Los Angeles were soon to come. Those positions were with super-star Interior Designs - Michael CF Chan and Windsor Smith Home. While I was at WSH we even got the opportunity to work on a personal home decor project for Gwyneth Paltrow!
I would then move to Northern California. While there I had two roles - a new role as the Global Sales Director for SkLO (a handblown glass lighting and decor brand - whose product is made in the Czech Republic and designed in California).
Upon moving to the Midwest I began working as a Designer at Nell Hill's in Kansas City. A retail store with design services that is traditional in taste and has a cult following from forty years in business.
Today, I would describes my design style as “luxurious, relaxed, approachable and authentic." Read more about my interior design point-of-view on my other TB blog posts.
